The latest version of the Quality Management System Standard ISO 9001 is ISO 9001:2015 was published in September 2015. Like other ISO Standards the ISO 9001 standard is periodically reviewed and revised in order to keep it relevant and useful. Though it was published in 2015, but 10 years is passing no updated version is published yet from Geneva based organization ISO.
This QMS standard has been reviewed 5 times already after its first version in 1987.Typically it takes 6-7 years for getting a new version. But due to COVID-19 pandemic situation in 2019-2020 6th version is not published yet. However, it is expected the 6th version of ISO 9001 will be published in September 2026. It also includes an amendment, ISO 9001:2015/Amd 1:2024, published in February 2024, which adds climate action considerations to Section 4.
Though it is not cleared and not disclosed by ISO what changes are coming in ISO 9001 latest version but around the globe ISO standard experts, iso auditors, consultants, Industry experts, Engineers and technical experts are assuming that following changes may be included in the ISO 9001:2026 Standard:
- Integration of emerging technologies, including the rapid increase in digitization and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in automated decision making
- Promotion of ethics and integrity by leaders
- Expansion of the concept of customer satisfaction to become the entire customer experience
- Enhanced focus on risk management
- Improved alignment with other management system standards like 14001,45001
